I cannot believe that our Cartoon Characters Litter is almost 7 weeks old! I don't know where the time has gone! They are getting so big and becoming little dogs...they are so cute and sweet ... I am so in love with them all!
Next weekend is puppy selection weekend already! When you come you will choose your puppy, of course, but you will also sign your purchase contract, which is also your receipt for payment and your puppy's health warrantee, and you will pick-up your Big Rock Puppy Kit, if you ordered one.
Currently your puppy is eating a TOTAL of 10-12 oz of raw chicken, bone-in, with fruits and vegetables (Mountain Dog Food brand) and Nupro Gold supplement powder. This total is broken down over three feedings during the day. (You can go to two feedings a day around 4 months of age) Of course this total amount will change as the puppy grows so check its weight frequently (puppies need 4.5 - 5 % of their body weight in raw). Do not feed after 6pm and only offer water with the meal (unless your puppy is outside during warm days or is exercising). You want to control when the food/water is going in so you know when it should be coming out! If you want to switch to another premium raw food brand, that is fine as well. I completely discourage anyone from switching to kibble, but if you were to do so, do not do it in the first 2 weeks!
Puppies get upset tummies whenever under stress. The stress can be from a growth or developmental spurt or from emotional stress such as when separated from the litter mates. Do not be alarmed if your puppy does not want to eat much the first day or two. This is normal and even my adult dogs will go off their food when we go to hotels or family's homes. You may also notice a little diarrhea. I would advise that you add a live probiotic to puppy’s food for the first few days. If ever in the future you notice a problem with diarrhea, pure canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) is also very good. The fiber will help firm up the stool and it is considered a real treat by most dogs! I usually give a tablespoon or two depending on the size of the dog.
